Summer 1997 - A small group began meeting together at the Sunday House for fellowship and prayer.
August 1997 - Graham Cooke came to us from Community Church, Southampton, England. He encouraged us to continue meeting, and to learn and discover depth of relationship with one another.
October 1997 - Danny and Dena Smith visit from Redeeming Love Covenant Church, Arlington, Texas. The prophetic word comes that we are to be a church.
Spring 1998 - We moved to the YO Holiday Inn. Wes Richards, King's Church, Windsor, England, visits to advise and encourage us. Through prayer, counsel and prophetic insight, it is determined that George Comegys will be the "set-man" - the first among equals of a permanent leadership team. After prayer, we decide that c.net, and international network of churches, would be our spiritual oversight, and we join that c. network of churches.
(note: c.net disbanded in 2003)
During the spring and summer of 1998, George and Sharon Comegys, and Richard and Glenda Holcomb were formally installed into the office of Elder by the laying on of hands and the prophetic word.
We immediately set about the work of building a church, both physically and spiritually. God used this time to strengthen and solidify the body. Vision and values began to develop, and our local oversight from James Avenue Church in Ft. Worth mentored and encouraged us during this season. We were able to use another church building in town for meetings on Sunday evenings. Then, we purchased 12 acres of land on Goat Creek Road, and we prepared to build our building.
August 2002 – Four years later, we completed and moved into our first building.
In the summer of 2003, we were delighted to have David and Cindy Danielson (and their children) answer the call of God on their lives to come and serve in Kerrville, and David became our first full time staff pastor. Shortly thereafter, Tammy Brown was also added to our part-time church staff in the position of youth pastor.
LOCAL CHURCH ORGANIZATION
The New Testament excluded certain issues in eldership where the Bible does not develop a complete definition. Two such areas are the co-equality of eldership, and the relationship of eldership to the senior elder or senior pastor. We believe God has allowed a diversity of views and successful church structures to develop in the New Testament Church. The Bible clearly emphasizes the important role elders play in local church government. Beyond that, it does not define how many elders a church should have, what they should be called, who should be the senior elder, or whether one of the five-fold ministries in Ephesians 4 should be a requirement.
Let each church be wise and sensitive to God in the area of leadership.
At Impact, we refer to those serving in elder roles as our Core Leadership Team. We believe each member of the Core Leadership Team is equal as persons, but not necessarily equal in Divine ability or appointment. We believe God appoints the leadership and the leader. We call our local leader the set man, and David Danielson is our set man. However, our Core Leadership Team functions together as a team of husbands and wives, and we practice and defer to one another in a circle of relationships as we seek to give oversight to the growth and development of the people who make up our congregation.
November 11, 2006 – We moved into our second building, a new worship center with enlarged sanctuary and nursery facilities.
December 10, 2006 – Graham Cooke is a part of setting Franklin & Katie Bess Williamson into our Core Leadership Team, and Graham also took a part in the dedication of our new worship center to the glory of the Lord’s highest purposes for us. |
